PYSANKY 101:
Learn the ancient art of Ukrainian Easter Egg decorating-- a sacred and meditative practice. Pysanky, as these eggs are known in Ukrainian, are made using the wax-resist "batik" method, in which designs are drawn or written onto the egg with beeswax, and then submerged in a series of dyebaths. Pysanky are often very intricate and include layers of meaning, imbued with symbols of protection and goodwill. In this workshop you'll learn the basics of transforming a plain egg into a pysanka using aniline dyes, chicken eggs, beeswax, and wooden stylus tools.

PYSANKY 201:
This workshop is for those who have made pysanky before, or taken a beginner class, but would like to know more about the intricacies of pysanka making; you'll learn about preparing the eggs, experimenting with colour and various application techniques, as well as finishing the pysanky. This workshop will go over several topics more in-depth, and give participants demonstrations, as well as some hands-on opportunities for trying out different methods of decorating pysanky, emptying, and displaying them.

TASSLES & POMPOMS:
Experience the beauty of simple yarn crafts!  Learn to make tassles and pompoms--traditional folk accessories used to inspire joy everywhere they are fastened! Using natural wool and cotton yarns, you'll learn to ply multi-coloured cord and make elegant tassles as well as fun soft pompoms. A fun and accessible craft that's fun to do in a pair, and surprisingly satisfying.

NATURAL DYES LECTURE:
Learn about natural dyes for pysanky, their origins, methods of preparations, contemporary developments, and the benefits and joys of working with natural dyestuffs. Led by Mary'ana Svarnyk of The Cosmic Egg blog www.svarnyk.com
