Kosa Choir’s Inaugural Season Culminates in Benefit Concert for Humanitarian Aid in Ukraine
The Kosa Choir is proud to announce the final concert of its inaugural season, featuring a special performance by the very talented dynamic Toronto based world music band Moskitto BAR!
The Kosa Choir is a Toronto based chamber folk choir dedicated to preserving and performing the traditional polyphonic songs of rural Ukraine—a cultural form often overlooked and at risk.
The choir will be presenting a range of repertoire journeying through the song cycles of the year alongside musical guests and friends Moskitto BAR, whose sound combines a beautiful and original mix of Ukrainian, Balkan, Iraqi Middle-Eastern and French Celtic music.
Proceeds from the concert will be dedicated to supporting humanitarian aid efforts in Ukraine. Since the war broke out in February 2022, thousands have lost their lives; thousands of children have been orphaned; millions have been displaced; and serious infrastructural damage has not only threatened economic viability but has also led to serious environmental risks and devastation.
The event will take place on Friday, June 7, 2024, 8:00 PM, at St. Volodymyr Institute, 620 Spadina Ave., Toronto. Doors open at 7:30 PM, general admission.
“We are thrilled to conclude our first season with such a meaningful event that not only celebrates our work with this threatened musical form but also raises awareness and support for such a vital cause,” said Andrea Kuzmich, Kosa Choir’s Musical Director. “Through this concert of calendrical ritual and lyrical songs, we aim to provide a visceral taste of the sorrows and joys that define Ukraine. Injecting the eclectic energy and multicultural spirit of Moskitto Bar into the larger program reminds us of how music transcends difference and serves as a powerful tool for cultural exchange and understanding, further amplifying our mission to promote solidarity and appreciation for Ukraine's rich heritage and current struggles.”
The evening promises to be a captivating blend of Moskitto BAR’s vibrant instrumental multicultural sounds and Kosa Choir’s acapella visceral harmonies. Be prepared for a deeply resonating experience that may even move you off your feet - especially if the Kosa Choir and Moskitto BAR collaborate on a few tunes.
Please join us on June 7th at St. Volodymyr Institute as we unite through an evening of exceptional music to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine
